BOOK TALK: Partners for World Health on International Women’s Day

March 8, 2023 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

Women and Conflict: From Situations to Solutions

On International Women’s Day 2023, join Partners for World Health as Libby and other esteemed panelists host a lively conversation on the important role of women in conflict

Libby will present her new book, The Answers Are There: Building Peace from the Inside Out and share her the stories of the extraordinary women leaders she has encountered. All across Sierra Leone, women are leading their communities to peace. These ‘Peace Mothers’ are rising from unspeakable challenges to heal the wounds of their decade-long civil war and to generate new growth and development – person by person, village by village. Join us at the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, March 8 for more!

About Partners for World Health

Partners for World Health (PWH) is a non-profit 501(c)3 based in Portland, Maine. PWH collects medical supplies and equipment from healthcare facilities, manufacturers, other organizations, and individuals. We sort, evaluate, repackage, and prepare these supplies and equipment for distribution to individuals, communities, and healthcare facilities in need. Our work limits the impact on the environment by diverting materials from landfills; lowers healthcare costs by lowering disposal fees; and provides healthcare resources to those in need. PWH aims to improve health conditions by sending medical personnel on medical missions to the developing world and educating New England communities about global health issues. Now in our second decade, PWH is the only New England-based nonprofit organization that collects, repackages, and distributes medical supplies to those in need. It is estimated that $10 billion is spent in disposal fees amongst hospitals across the U.S, discarding of more than 5 million tons of supplies, equipment and trash. Since 2009, PWH has collected more than 5 million pounds of medical supplies that would have otherwise been destined for local landfills, saving more than 500,000 pounds in 2021 alone.
