Join Libby for “Building Peace from the Inside Out: Activating the Resource of Community for Social Healing”
May 4, 2023 3:45-5:00 PM ET
AfP is preparing to host May 3rd-5th, 2023 in partnership with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), the 11th annual conference, PeaceCon 2023: Beyond Fragile Ground: New Peacebuilding Architectures for Today and the Future. AfP’s PeaceCon@10 in 2022 brought together 1,600+ participants from 120 countries and reached millions of people globally with over 21 million social media impressions from the hashtag, #RiseToBuildPeace. PeaceCon 2023 will once again have a global reach, including influential government officials, policymakers, and practitioners in-person in Washington, DC and virtually from around the world.
On Thursday, May 4, join Libby, in conversation with Nyambura Mundia, Founding Director of Usawa Inc. in Kenya, and host of Swaiba, the Audible African Woman podcast.
Our world desperately needs new ways to support community transformation, as well as stories that inspire and equip us to work differently. This session offers both.
In her new book The Answers Are There: Building Peace from the Inside Out, Libby Hoffman shares lessons from her 15+ year partnership with Fambul Tok in Sierra Leone, showing what is possible when outside aid animates local leadership and honors the resources of people working together in community. A conversation between Hoffman and Kenyan social entrepreneur and podcast host Nyambura Mundia, this session will explore what it takes to animate communities for social healing, and what becomes possible when we do. It will illuminate a new architecture for peace–one that has emerged from lived experience–that can support us in working from wholeness and dignity instead of fragmentation and depletion, wherever we’re located in the system of international peace and development.
